In order to be eligible for permanent residence under the self-employed persons class, section 88(1) of the Regulations requires you to have relevant self-employment experience in athletics, cultural activities or managing a farm.
The following are the minimum requirements for relevant self-employment experience
1. Cultural Activities
2. Athletics
3. Purchase and Management of a Farm
Without the relevant experience, your application will be refused.
In addition to getting points for relevant experience, section 102(1) will issue points for your age, education, language proficiency and adaptability.
Provinces can also select candidates for becoming self-employed under the Provincial Nominee Program. Each province's self-employed program has their own criteria. It is advisable to research the requirements of the province you would like to be selected for to see if you are eligible.
